Hyerim Jang
Hyerim Jang is a choreographer who constantly composes pieces with a basis of Korean traditonal dance with correlation of a theme or idea form the current era. After graduating from Korea National University of Arts with a Bachelor degree, she established 99 Art Company in 2014 and took her role as an Artistic Director and choreographer. In 2015 she made a mark in her career as a choreographer by being awarded with the grand prize for choreography by Dance Critics’ Choice 2015.
Hyerim Jang utilizes the theme on having consciousness of the ontological value of human beings in her pieces. With a motive of ‘a dance sending an echo to the soul’ to create her pieces, the major productions include (Breathing Swing), (An Abyss), (Silence), (Mark 7:34), and much more. Her works have been invited to perform at Seoul Performing Arts Festival(SPAF), ChangMu International Dance Festival, and other various events. In 2017, her piece (An Abyss) was selected PAMS-Choice by Seoul Art Market.
She challenges to choreograph regardless of any field of genres. In 2018 she composed (Land of rose) for Seoul Ballet Theater as a guest choreographer in collaboration with ballet dancers. As well, she participated in Korea International Accessible Dance Festival (KIADA) premiering the piece called (Mark 7:34) in collaboration with the hearing impaired.
Hyerim Jang aims to create pieces including traditional and contemporary aspects and wishes to deliver and share diverse, internal stories through dance with the audience. She hopes to sustain her determination along with 99 Art Company like trees that lay firm roots on the ground, as they grow higher up towards the sky.
