The Film Ulysses from Ghana Closes IV UNESCO Forum Against Racism and Discrimination in Barcelona
A Landmark Achievement in Promoting Cultural Diplomacy and Inclusivity
The South-South Cooperation Council for Sustainable Development (SSCC) is proud to announce that its docufiction film Ulysses from Ghana, presented in an Artificial Intelligence-enhanced version, was selected to close the IV UNESCO Forum Against Racism and Discrimination held in Barcelona from 9th to 11th December 2024.
The film screening took place at Cinemes Girona, Barcelona's premier venue for art and independent cinema, marking a significant milestone for SSCC’s cultural diplomacy efforts.
SSCC’s Influence at the Forum
Congressman Cesar Mantilla, a member of the SSCC Board of Directors, actively contributed to the forum by participating in two panels, including one as a moderator, reinforcing SSCC’s role in facilitating critical dialogue on cultural inclusion and anti-discrimination.
Additionally, the Forum provided opportunities for strategic bilateral discussions with key global leaders and institutions:
- Ministers from Timor-Leste and Cape Verde,
- Ombudsmen from Peru, Brazil, Ecuador, and Serbia,
- Simona-Mirela Miculescu, Ambassador of Romania to UNESCO, representing all UNESCO member states until the end of 2025,
- Deputy mayors of London and The Hague,
- A representative of the Italian Presidency of the Republic,
- Gabriela Ramos, Assistant Director-General of UNESCO for Social Sciences and Chair of the UNESCO Forum.
Inspiring Discussions and Global Representation
The screening was preceded by a distinguished panel discussion featuring prominent SSCC representatives and cultural leaders:
- Viktor Sebek, Chairman of SSCC,
- Hedva Ser, SSCC Policy Advisory Board Member and UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador for Cultural Diplomacy,
- Bernd Alder, SSCC Academic Board Member, film director, and head of Alderart Studios,
- Mark Sparks, SSCC Corporate Board Member.
The event concluded with an interactive Q&A session, allowing participants to engage with the creative and policy leaders behind the project.
