SSCC reaffirmed its long-standing commitment to global climate action during a high-level meeting with Mr. Ali Mohamed, Special Envoy on Climate Change in the Office of the President of Kenya and a distinguished SSCC Board Member. The meeting highlighted the enduring significance of the tricontinental partnership established at the Rio+20 Summit in 2012.

A Historic Tricontinental Agreement

Mr. Mohamed, along with Cecile Alvarez representing the Philippines and Viktor Sebek for Colombia, was instrumental in forming a groundbreaking tricontinental agreement during Rio+20. This pact aims to address the devastating impacts of natural disasters and mitigate climate change through collaborative strategies across Africa, Asia, and Latin America.

During the recent meeting, discussions focused on advancing this partnership, emphasizing the importance of shared knowledge, resources, and policy frameworks to combat the growing threats posed by climate change.

Building on Shared Goals

The trio reaffirmed their dedication to the agreement's core objectives:

  • Strengthening resilience in vulnerable regions.

  • Fostering sustainable development through South-South cooperation.
