News from the Central American Integration System ( SICA) - 14th October, Day of Integration of Central America

SSCC is proud to have H,E, Vinicio Cerezo, former President of Guatemala and current Secretary General of SICA, as a distinguished member of our Policy Advisory Board, and his chief adviser, Ms. Olinda Salguero, as the member of its Scientific and Academic Advisory Board.

14th October is the Day of Integration of Central America and on this occasion, Secretary General Cerezo has sent a message which sums up the achievements of SICA in the last 30 years. This is all the more important as next years also coincides with the bicentenary of independence from Spain of seven out of eight SICA members (Belize was, of course, British colony)

In his message, the Secretary General recapitulates the events in SICA in the last 30 year years, economic, political, social, environmental and health crises (especially in the aftermath of covid) and concludes that such problems can be addressed in a satisfactory manner through integration, with tools which generate new knowledge and actions leading to societies which will be more democratic, pluralist, just, peaceful, inclusive, equitable and with social cohesion.
