Indigenous Leadership in Action: Puyr Tembé Confirms Participation in SSCC Forum in Cartagena

Brazilian Secretary of Indigenous Affairs to bring the voice of the Amazon to Colombia ahead of COP30

The South-South Cooperation Council for Sustainable Development (SSCC) is honored to confirm the participation of Puyr Tembé, a prominent indigenous leader from the Brazilian Amazon and current Secretary of State for Indigenous Affairs of Pará, at the upcoming SSCC Indigenous Forum to be held in Cartagena, Colombia, on July 1–2, 2025.

Puyr Tembé’s commitment to indigenous empowerment and environmental advocacy has made her a key figure in shaping Brazil’s preparations for COP30, which will be hosted in Belém, Pará, from November 10–21, 2025. Her involvement in the Cartagena Forum will strengthen the bridge between Amazonian and Afro-Indigenous communities across the Global South.

As part of her efforts leading up to COP30, Puyr Tembé is spearheading a historic “Climate Caravan”—a mobilization across the eight ethno-regions of Pará—designed to prepare indigenous leaders, especially youth, to actively participate in the global climate summit. This initiative includes political training, environmental education, media production, and the eventual gathering of over 1,000 indigenous representatives in Belém during COP30.

SSCC proudly applauds the leadership of Puyr Tembé and her commitment to ensuring that indigenous voices are not only heard but lead the path forward toward climate justice and sustainability.

Her participation in the SSCC Indigenous Forum will offer critical insights into the organizational and political dimensions of indigenous mobilization in the Amazon, as well as open space for dialogue with counterparts from Colombia, Africa, and Asia.
