In a landmark event at COP29, the Philippines Pavilion in Baku hosted a side event titled “SDGs Climate Peace Education Saves the Future”, spearheaded by Earthsavers Philippines, a UNESCO Artist of Peace initiative, under the leadership of Mrs. Cecile Alvarez. The event underscored the crucial role of cultural and educational initiatives in the global climate discourse.
The event featured prominent organizations, including the South-South Cooperation Council (SSCC), the Climate Institute from Washington DC, Art’s Planet, and Energies 2050 from France. Their presentations highlighted innovative approaches to climate education and cultural engagement, especially in francophone Africa.
The session also benefited from the insights of Mr. Ramil Iskandarli, Chairman of Azerbaijan's NGO coalition, emphasizing the vital contributions of civil society in climate action. His call to integrate cultural dimensions into climate policies resonated strongly with the audience.
