Cecile Alvarez and the Earthsavers Shine at ASEAN Summit with a Powerful Call for Peace and Sustainability

SSCC honors its Policy Advisory Board member for leading the SDGs Techno-ResiliArt Eco Peace Education Summit and performing before ASEAN education ministers

Manila, Philippines | March 9 & 25, 2025 — The South-South Cooperation Council for Sustainable Development (SSCC) proudly salutes the exceptional leadership and artistic impact of Dr. Cecile Guidote Alvarez, renowned UNESCO Artist for Peace and esteemed member of the Foundation’s Policy Advisory Board.

Dr. Alvarez served as host and creative force behind the “SDGs Techno-ResiliArt Eco Peace Education Summit”, held at the University of Makati (UMak). This major international gathering brought together education ministers from the ASEAN member states alongside senior representatives from UNESCO, the Philippine Senate, and distinguished diplomats and cultural figures from Brazil, Greece, and Azerbaijan.

As part of the Summit, her legendary Earthsavers group delivered a deeply moving theatrical performance, promoting climate resilience, peace education, and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Their artistic message echoed across borders, showcasing the transformative power of culture and performance in shaping global cooperation and solidarity among nations of the Global South.

The Summit was further enriched by keynote messages from education and cultural leaders, including the Philippine Department of Education, Department of the Interior and Local Government, and prominent voices in international environmental and peacebuilding initiatives.

“Dr. Alvarez embodies the essence of SSCC: action through art, reflection through peace, and unity through cultural diversity,” stated Viktor Sebek, President of SSCC.

Her engagement and vision reflect the mission of SSCC to promote South-South cooperation as a vehicle for sustainable development, intercultural dialogue, and inclusive peace. Events like this reaffirm SSCC’s commitment to positioning art as a tool for diplomacy and development on the global stage.
