Carolina Puerta Ocampo Joins as Coordinator of the SSCC Office for the Caribbean and Latin America

A mobile blood donation drive was held in the Senate on 15th October , in honor of the late Senator Heherson Alvarez, much missed former member of SSCC Policy Advisory board. Philippine Red Cross (PRC) chairman and Senator Richard Gordon said the activity is pursuant to a resolution adopted by the chamber last May 5 which declares the birth and death anniversaries of their colleague as blood donation day in the Senate. Alvarez would have turned 81 on October 16, and the activity was slated a day ahead of it as senators will likely hold their last session on Thursday before they go on a month-long break. "The Red Cross is glad and honored to do it as this is our way of remembering his exemplary life and outstanding contributions to our nation as a legislator championing and authoring bills that seek to protect the environment," Gordon said. The senator encouraged his colleagues and their staff to participate as he underscored that their blood donations would go a long way especially as the COVID-19 pandemic affected mass blood donation drives. Alvarez, a senator from 1987 to 1998, succumbed to COVID-19 last April 20.
