SSCC celebrates the artistic leadership of UNESCO Artist for Peace Cecile Guidote-Alvarez at regional education summit in Southeast Asia
The South-South Cooperation Council for Sustainable Development (SSCC) proudly celebrates a remarkable cultural milestone led by Earthsavers, UNESCO Artist for Peace, under the visionary direction of Cecile Guidote-Alvarez. On March 25, 2025, Earthsavers delivered a powerful artistic performance before the Ministers of Education of the 10 ASEAN countries—Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei, and the Philippines.
The performance, hosted with the support of the Philippines’ Department of Education (DepEd) and Undersecretary Georgina H. Yang, showcased ResiliArt expressions aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)—especially those focused on peacebuilding and climate justice. Through dance, music, and theatrical storytelling, the performance brought to life the voices and struggles of communities impacted by climate change, as well as their enduring hope and creative resistance.
The event was a moving testament to how art and education can intersect to transform hearts and minds. It affirmed Earthsavers’ leadership in using culture as a catalyst for sustainable development.
Earthsavers is a key member of the SSCC’s international coalition that is preparing a comprehensive cultural and educational agenda for COP30, the United Nations Climate Change Conference to be held in Belém, Pará, Brazil in November 2025. This coalition—linking organizations from the Philippines, France, Africa and Latin America—is committed to elevating the role of artistic diplomacy and cultural rights in global climate policy.
A special photo collage from the event is included in this article, capturing the elegance, energy, and impact of the performance that deeply resonated with ASEAN leaders.
